Have you booked your dream wedding venue and now thinking of the finishing touches to make it fit the perfect look for your special day? Need help with ideas on what decoration to use? We at Lynsay Borthwick Weddings & Events are here to help and have put together the key areas to style your wedding.
We know that not all venues are the same, and some may require more styling than others, but what they all have in common are the key areas that you and your guests will be using throughout the day.
The key areas to style:
Your welcome area is the first space of your wedding that your guests will experience on their arrival, and we think it’s a great place to let your guests know that they are in the right place.
We suggest a welcome sign to make it feel more personalised, an Order of the Day board or depending on your venue, perhaps even some signs to point guests in the right direction.
For an extra special touch, you can add flowers, candles, lanterns or a crate display, all matching your style that you have chosen.
For after the marriage ceremony, and your guests are taking their seat for the meal, we recommend a table plan stand so everyone knows where they are to be seated.
Your ceremony aisle can be dressed as simple or as lavish as you like.
A simple aisle runner with scattered petals or leaves, can look so effective. Or, down either side of the walkway you can add lanterns, floral pedestals, vases with floating or pillar candles while adding some foliage can all be stunning looks.
Also, don’t forget your focal point at the top of your aisle.
Again, there are so many beautiful ideas, bespoke archways dressed with flowers, lights or a swag, or a fairy light backdrop, all a great focal point for your vows to take place.
Chair décor can be a beautiful added touch.
Chair drapes or sashes can be tied in all different styles and can be a lovely way to add a touch of colour into the room. You can either decorate them all, or for your ceremony why not decorate just the end chairs with a little bunch of flowers or a bow… a great money saving idea!
Depending on the colour or style of the chairs in your venue, they may clash with your colour scheme, a great way to work around this is with our chair covers, that come in white or black.
We highly recommend decorating your tables so that they complement your room and style.
The ideas are endless for centrepieces, again, like your aisle, your centrepieces can be as lavish or as simple as you like.
Centrepieces can be a great way to create different heights in your room, or by adding candles you can create a romantic and cosy atmosphere. Think about the shape of tables you are having, are they round or rectangle? This can help you choose what kind of décor you would like, and what will look best.
Don’t forget your place cards, and table numbers too, so your guests know where they are to sit!
The décor on your top table doesn’t need to be the same as the rest of the tables, as long as it ties in with the style of your day.
You really can go over the top on some elements of it to make it extra special, adding more extravagant chair décor, a fairy light backdrop or for a real wow factor, an over the table foliage display!
We so often arrive at a venue and the little table for the cake is sitting all alone with only a table cloth waiting for the cake to arrive. Why not make your cake table a real feature!
Add a show stopper cake stand, sparkly table cloth, a decorative backdrop, or why not create a Candy Cart with the cake as the focal point for a real sweet treat!
Your guests will want to drop off their gift or card as soon as they arrive at your venue, so we would recommend creating an area specifically for these to go.
Why not add a traditional post box, a card basket or use the same flowers or greenery and candles as your table décor to tie this area in with the rest of the styling.
It’s also a great area to add your guestbook!
If you really want to create the wow factor, we also suggest thinking about decorating your venue ceiling, the bar area, and don’t forget about your outdoor area… why not add one of our outdoor heated igloos for a really cool chill out area!
The possibilities are endless and we are here to personalise your wedding to you.
We know for some this may feel like a lot, and you might be wondering where to start. But please don’t fret.
